DAY 1
Discovering the Magic of Reading (DMR)
a. Pre-reading
1. Activating prior knowledge and building background
Motivation:
Ask: Class, I have here list of Asian countries. Which of these Asian countries are being ruled by emperors? What do you think are the duties and responsibilities of an emperor?
2. Unlocking of difficulties:
Through picture and context clues.

a. The emperor is the supreme ruler of the entire land.
b. The rich man chose his son to be his successor.
c. The pupils wear their complete uniform for inspection.

3. Previewing:
Say: I am going to read to you a story. The title of the story is “The Emperor Seed.” Look at the picture, what do you see?
What do you think is the story about?
4. Setting the purpose for reading:
a. Read the title of the story once again.

C. Presentation

I am going to read to you the story, “The Batter”. Listen to the story carefully.


The Batter

The batter took his time warming up, because he hoped to make the pitcher think he was totally confident. He figured that the more he appeared sure of himself, the more nervous the pitcher would be. If the pitcher could be put on edge, even a little bit, then his dangerous curve ball might be to his trick, he would easily throw the famous curved ball. The pitcher threw the ball and with a great cracking sound, the batter sent it soaring the ball park.

Comprehension Question:
1. Who’s the batter?
2. Why did the batter take his time warming up?
3. What might happen if the batter appeared very self-infident?
4. What would happen if the pitcher were nervous and on the edge?
5. Why might the pitcher easily throw that famous curve ball?

DAY 4
A. Motivation
SAY: From the story we have read, The Emperor’s Seed, list down the important ideas/events in the story.
B. Presentation:
Read the paragraph and identify the important idea.
Always warm up before doing strength training exercises. Failure to warm up can cause injuries to cold muscles. Remember to use proper lifting procedures to be safe. You can also avoid injury by working within your limits and avoiding the need to show off.

VI. WRITING.

Group Activity:

Arrange these events in proper sequence. Pick out a colored strip and read the situation written on it. Then, paste it on the wall accordingly as it happened in the story.
